On Tuesday 18th August 2020 I was taken, by ambulance, to A&E in unbearable pain. As the day unfolded I found out that I’d unfortunately suffered a ruptured ectopic pregnancy, had severe internal bleeding and would need emergency surgery to remove my fallopian tube.

All of this information I was given to process on my own. Due to the current global pandemic I was unable to have my husband by my side when I found out our baby had died, or when I was rushed to emergency surgery and there was a high chance there would be complications, or when the bereavement team asked me what I would like to do with my baby’s remains. There was nobody to hold me or offer a shoulder to cry on whilst I sobbed.

I wasn’t able to see any family or friends until I left hospital. What I went through was incredibly traumatic & painfully difficult and I needed the support of my partner. He too suffered terribly sat at home with no idea what was happening and a lack of updates.

I don’t want any other woman to have to go through what I went through and ask that any woman facing pregnancy complications is allowed someone in hospital to support her and hold her hand. Trust me, she needs it more than you know.
