For the last five years, when Modality took over our local Hull GP surgery (Newland Group Practice) the service has been atrocious.  Though the reception staff are terribly unprofessional (the way they speak to patients) they are also bound by a ridiculous telephone system that has rendered patients incapable of seeing a GP. The ‘new telephone’ system gives a choice of 4 options -all of which are either impossible to use (because you are not given a PIN and you’re not allowed to go and get one), it rings and rings and then goes dead or you are advised that a GP will ring you back. The GP does not ring back or lets the phone ring once  and then it’s put down. It’s impossible to request a sick note, ask for a prescription or see nurse without being extremely computer literate with a good WiFi signal and access to push doctor, e consult or an automated service that you need a PIN for. Nurse appointments can be booked via another online system ‘systmonline’ but only if you are invited to . This feels like a back door privatisation of our beloved NHS and I don’t believe that NHS GP surgeries should be owned and managed by companies such as Modality. Modality is not fit for purpose.
