Why are some children waiting 5 years or more for an appropriate diagnosis of their needs?

Why is it a minimum of three years wait in most counties for a diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder?

Why is it a 12 month wait just to have an initial appointment with the community paediatrician if you're lucky enough to have that team in your city?

WHY ARE OUR CHILDREN BEING CONSTANTLY FAILED BY OUR GOVERNMENT DUE TO A SEVERE LACK OF FUNDING AND RESOURCES???

When a parent asks for help for their child because they suspect they have additional needs or any one of the conditions under the umbrella that is Autism Spectrum Disorder, has it become acceptable for them to be told to wait 5 years for a diagnosis?

It doesn't just stop at diagnosis for Autism, ADHD, SPD etc, but there are children on URGENT waiting lists for eating disorders, mental health disorders that are also waiting MONTHS for help!!

Today's children are the next generation of adults, it is ESSENTIAL that their mental well being is looked after to allow them to become well functioning, happy adults.
