Since the beginning of the Covid 19 global pandemic an increasing number of people around the world have started suffering with olfactory disorders, mainly anosmia.
This condition prevents you from detecting odours, smells and scents. Consequently people can’t taste flavours in their food.

As you can imagine anosmia not only affects people safety as they are not capable to detect harmful smell such as gas for example, it also impacts people mentally and psychologically.
Imagine waking up one day and not being able to smell the reassuring scent of your loved ones, of the outside air, of your favourite shower cream or perfume.
Imagine coming back home after a tough long day at work and not being able to smell to the reassuring and welcoming scent of your home. Imagine trying to cook a meal without being able to smell the ingredients.. Imagine eating your favourite food and realise that they taste of absolutely nothing.

Smells and scents evoke emotions in us. The sense of smell is such a powerful thing for us human beings. Smells and scents make us feel a certain way, they can reassure us, excite us, save us, and ultimately make us feel good and part of this world.
If we can’t smell socialising suddenly becomes an issue, something you fear, something you want to avoid, eating becomes and issue, a chore, a problem and you stop eating healthy. You become lonely and depressed trying to remember how things smell and taste and how olfactory induced emotions used to feel like..

Doctors and ENT specialist don’t seem to known much about this condition because not enough people ever suffered from this condition up to now. Therefore  research in this field have been sparse and even when a possible breakthrough could have been found there wasn’t a strong enough clinical case to justify funding.

However things have changed and a change is needed in order to help people regain an acceptable quality of life.

Please sigh this petition to help our Government understand that more funding is necessary to find a cure for this condition that affects an increasing number of people in our society and causes so much suffering both physically and psychologically.

Thank you.
