Christine Taylor started this petition to Matt Hancock (Secretary of state health minister)

Our most dependent and vulnerable in society now seem to be the forgotten ones during the pandemic. People with Altzimers Dementia and other brain diseases have no concept of why they are being denied seeing their families and friends, a new pandemic will be next ..Broken lonely hearts My mother and hundres of people' are suffering from a form of deprevation in human basic needs. Conversation and skin to skin contact {hugs and holding each other close}.
When a person has Dementia they have too many years stolen away from them. Friends and relatives of a person with dementia lose more and more of them everyday. “Ambiguous Loss” is the term used for the different stages of dementia, diagnosis, admission to hospital, admission to a care home and admission to a nursing home. The grief is often ongoing for many years. I wouldn't wish Dementia on anyone. As their brain gradually dies, they change both physically and personalitywise they become anxious and confused and eventually do not even know who their loved ones are.
Sometimes they become bedridden, unable to move and unable to eat or drink.
This will come on more quickly without interaction with family and not through a window as many have no or only partial sight.
Do you realise some of these old and vulnerable people will die from loneliness or a worsening of their dementia before this is over? Our Mother was a widow age 33 left with 3 young children she never claimed benefits never remarried but she worked and saved and looked after her family. Sadly aged 80 she was diagnosed with Altzimers and needed 24 hour care which costs her as a self funder over £700 per week our mother is now 87 and still paying for her own care! During the pandemic the care home went quite rightly into lockdown, which eventually went to one visit per week through a top window opening! Where we had to stand and shout to her, again the care home is on local restrictions and no window visits at all.It came to my notice that if my mother was in HMP (prison) her care would be paid for and she would be allowed inside 2 metres apart visits from family and friends. Our Mother is not a prisoner but is not enjoying the same rights as they are. This needs to change ..Lest we forget!
