Being a sufferer of BPD I understand and are currently experiencing the frustrations of what is the mental health system. I have received 3 criminal convictions as a result of my mental health (not that it is an excuse but it is a cause), My child is on a child protection plan due to the risk of the emotional impact that my mental health has on him and I have been in and out of A+E on numerous occasions due to suicidal behaviours. Despite this I have been told that I have to wait 2 years to receive the treatment that I need, after fighting with mental health for over 9 years.

All three of the above are currently costing the public tax payers significant amounts of public funding. By increasing access to mental health services there WILL be a reduction in public services being drained elsewhere, crime will reduce, A+E admittance would reduce and social services would see a reduced number of cases. Only two days ago I attended A+E and was told that I couldn't have a side room because there was another 9 patients in with mental health issues and they just didn't have the space.

The NHS have published a document that states that the financial costs of the adverse effects of mental illness on people’s quality of life are estimated at £41.8 billion per annum in England. Wider costs to the national economy in terms of welfare benefits, lost productivity at work etc. amount to some £77 billion a year’
