Named the "Stop Online Piracy Act", and otherwise known as the "Stop Online PRIVACY Act", "SOPA" is a bill which is soon to be voted on in Congress when it reconvenes January 17, 2012. SOPA threatens Internet privacy, and still worse, may lead to many social blogs and support groups being deleted or made inaccessible. It seems the more anyone understands about Internet Technology and the bill, the more concerns they have.
Regardless of whether it passes, companies which support this bill will suffer for being associated with it. Even companies such as GoDaddy which have since pulled their support are still dealing with the backlash as this article reveals.
Both credit card companies VISA and Mastercard support SOPA and this is why I've opened an American Express account. I'll be channeling my funds primarily through it in the future. I doubt I'll be the only one. Sony supports SOPA and while I don't buy a lot of Sony products, I'm sure this decision on their part will taint my purchasing choices in the future as well.
