Please help us save our Achievement Standards!

In Massey High School we were handed our option booklets only to find that our School has decided to drop our Resistant Materials class which is part of the Technology Faculty. This means next year there will be no Achievement Standards available to students who want to design and make practical projects to solve problems and still go to University. All of the other Hard Material classes earn Unit Standard credits. If you don't know the difference between Unit Standards and Achievement Standards they are:
- Unit Standards are competency based.
- Achievement Standards are New Zealand curriculum based.
It is no secret that Resistant Materials is a compulsory option for Year 9's and 10's but, what is the point in it being a compulsory subject if it isn't even available to Year 10's as a future option for Year 11 (N.C.E.A Level 1).
The school is turning into a more academic based school (Maths, English, and Science) but, they seem to have forgotten about the students who want to earn Achievement Standards in the workshops.
We as students want people to sign this petition to make the school see why we want this subject to stay so we can do the career option we want to do without being forced into another job option.
