Matt Khatib started this petition to Massachusetts Governor Governor Charles Baker and

We implore you to allow  Massachusetts Jewelers to reopen in Phase 1. As Jewelers in Massachusetts, we respect the actions taken by Governor Baker to "flatten the Curve" due to COVID19. We have shuttered our Brick and Mortar businesses for more than 8 weeks and if not allowed to reopen until Phase 2 as currently slated, after June 8th, we will have lost an entire fiscal revenue quarter.  Many of these businesses are family owned and operated and are these family's sole source of income. Jewelers also employ in their stores both professional sales staff and skilled craftsman. The current order to allow curbside pickup is not a viable solution to these businesses that handle high value merchandise to and from customers. Jewelry specific tools and testing equipment within our stores ensures the valuables are properly inspected and accounted for in the customers presence. As an industry we are reaching critical points of failure if not allowed to reopen our doors to customers immediately in Phase 1. As specialty retailers, our Industry as a whole is not high foot traffic, often we see less than 20 people in a day. Our stores can reopen safely and are naturally set up for social distancing, with wide show cases that separate us from our clients. We will continue to implement strict social distancing measures within our stores, follow sanitizing protocols and require masks as recommended by the CDC, as Jewelers in our neighboring states have already successfully implemented and executed.. Allowing jewelry stores to open in Phase 1 on May 28th is critical to our future success as an industry. Please help us to safely reopen our stores by signing this petition.
