We are writing to ask you to advocate for the passage of MA House Bill #1265. This bill was composed by Representative Marjorie Decker fighting for immediate eligibility for emergency housing. We are seniors at Attleboro High School in Attleboro, Massachusetts. It is estimated that about 35 to 40 people in Attleboro are living in chronic homelessness at the moment, these numbers are unacceptable. While it is true that some homeless people choose to be homeless, there is a large amount of people who have been evicted from their homes or can't afford housing. Bill #1265 will allow immediate housing assistance for those who need it. Currently, people aren't considered for homeless assistance until they spend one night on the streets. That means that in order to have a comfortable place to sleep, a person must sleep in a tent, their car, at a bus stop, etc. People should be able to receive assistance immediately if they are in jeopardy of becoming homeless, like those who may be evicted or lose their job. Please consider signing this petition in support of not only this bill, but the support of the homeless citizens in Massachusetts.
