Improve safety of students at MHS with the presence of a police officer in the building.

With the rising problem of school shootings and threats in the United States I believe Mason High School needs to take action to ensure our safety. It has recently come to the students attention that Mason High School has declined Mason Police’s offer to have a single officer in our school everyday due to the assumption it would make students increasingly uncomfortable. Although this is a valid concern I believe most students would disagree with that assumption and would actually be more comfortable in an environment where there is someone armed watching out for us.
I don’t want my classmates to fear attending school everyday. I don’t want my classmates to have to wait in fear and in harms way for law enforcement if something went wrong. I don’t want my classmates to fear a police officer entering our building because they think something bad happened. I want my classmates to feel safe after we normalize police presence. I want my classmates to build positive relationships with the police not only negative ones. I want my classmates to fight for safety and have their voices heard. My classmates and I deserve a fear free environment to learn.
Although this proactive measure will by no means solve the issue, it is a step in the right direction.
