Community Action Group

The Community Action Group (CAG) has been set up by members of the Luton (UK) Masjid-e-Ali (a.s) community as a means for obtaining transparency regarding the management of our Masjid and to pursue conclusion to the dispute that exists within the community

Our initial focus and priority is the ongoing fundraising efforts and use of funds that have been collected thus far.  The focus on Masjid finances carries extra importance due to the lack of an AGM.  We believe if would be in the interests of the community, donors, and the competing management teams (plus Holding Trustees) to provide complete transparency as demanded below.

The signatories to this petition call for the following:

Masjid-e-Ali (a.s) to provide the information listed below within 14 days of the submission of this petition:

 -       Details of Bank Accounts in use and the names under which they are held plus names of signatories

-       Funds collected since 01/02/2017 to 01/02/2018 itemised as follows and with documentary evidence from bank statements:

 o   General Building Fund

o   Membership subscriptions

o   Funeral memberships

o   Muharram Fundraising

o   Niaz Fund

o   Toilet/Air Conditioning specific collections

o   JustGiving (online) donations

o   14 Point campaign donations

o   Hungry and Homeless donations

o   Any other income

-       Details of Qarz-e-Hasanah liabilities and due dates – along-with names of the “donor” if the Qarz has been provided by individuals who are part of the management of Masjid e Ali.

-       Funds spent since 01/02/2017 to 27/02/2018, itemised as follows and with documentary evidence:

o   Toilets work

o   Air conditioning work

o   Any other building related works

o   Projected, plus actual expenditure for Gala event

o   Current and projected expenditure for 14 point campaign, particularly high cost aspects such as Mount Everest and Snowden – including travel and admin expenses related to the 14 point campaign

o   Any other significant expenses

 We require the above information be provided clearly in the following ways:

 -       Masjid-e-Ali noticeboards

-       Email to members

-       Letter to members

-       Via Masjid Whatsapp

Failure to disclose the requested information within the timescales stipulated will result in the following:

-       A lack of transparency will be seen as an admittance of misuse/misrepresentation with respect to funds collected and spent

-       A public communication to UK wide donors, large centres and Shia media to make them aware of potential misuse/dishonesty with respect to use of Masjid-e-Ali funds

-       A further communication to the Luton Shia community to seek their consensus for the reporting of the financial misconduct concerns to the Charity Commission

-       Creation of a public website for the transparent communication of ongoing concerns relating to financial misconduct
