Lenke Slegers started this petition to Masaka City Council

Masaka gained city status last year and is working on improving it's road network. Which is great for businesses and all road users in general.

The only sad part is that very many beautiful old trees are being cut down to make way for the tarmac, and are not being replaced. Even if they are replaced, it will take long time to grow again in the majestic giants we currently have.

More than ever we need trees in our environment. They bring shade and cool breezes on hot days. Much appreciated in a tropical environment! They are also home to many of the more than 1.000 species of birds that populate Uganda.

Progress is good, but it would be better if there is a bit of consideration towards nature as well.

The street I am talking about doesn't necessarily need widening like suggested by the city council (killing all the trees on the side line). It will also be unsafe to drive out of your gate which will become immediately connected to the road (with a lot of speeding cars).

If these old giants are cut down, a green legacy will be lost forever. They are over fifty years old.

With this (second) petition, I hope we can reach out to Masaka city council and make them see the value of keeping some green lungs intact in our city.

I work in the mentioned street and see with pain my heart the demarcation done.
Please help me to get as many signatures as possible!

a warm thank you
