Oppose the Expansion of Hwy. 70 in District 10!! Stop the Gridlock in Marysville!!

Caltrans is proposing a "safety project" on Hwy. 70 through District 10 in Yuba County. The longterm goal is to expand Hwy. 70 to a 5-lane freeway, increasing traffic congestion and gridlock in Marysville, which already has a significant congestion and gridlock problem.
The immediate proposal by Caltrans would expand the 2-lane highway to 3-lanes with a continuous center turn lane along the 9-mile stretch with wider shoulders.
Land acquisition and construction costs, are in the hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars. Caltrans, along with city and county leaders, understands that in the foreseeable future, Marysville will need to be bypassed. The proposed 3-lane project will take 60-65 acres of prime farmland out of production permanently. The proposed 5-lane project could take another 185 acres of prime farmland permanently out of production.
Studies prove that with increased traffic, residents will experience more health-related issues like cancer and asthma. There will most certainly will be a reduction in property values and a diminished quality of life for nearby residents.
Rather than throw away hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars on a temporary solution that will diminish the quality of life for Marysville and District 10 residents, we want to encourage Caltrans to study bypassing Marysville now.
We can ALL agree that we want a safer Hwy. 70 for everyone and there are safety alternatives that can be put into place today with little cost to taxpayers, including: Daylight Headlight Safety Section, more speed limit signs and greater enforcement by CHP.
If you are a Yuba County or Marysville resident/property owner, we ask you to join the fight by signing our petition today. Thank you!
