This problem is caused by our generation, 50% of all plastic was made in the past 13 years. This issue needs to be solved before any further impact. The switch from plastic straws to biodegradable will save wildlife and provide a cleaner bay and environment. Every year 2.5 billion metric tons of solid waste are produced globally, 275 million metric tons of solid waste waste is plastic, and 8 million metric tons of plastic waste enters the ocean. Currently 150 million metric tons of plastic reside in marine environments, 8.3 billion plastic straws pollute the worlds beaches, and 7.5% plastic pollution in the environment comes from straws. Personally our families live near the water and would like to have clean water without having the worry of bacteria and nasty pollution when we want to go for a swim. The pollution in the water, soil, and atmosphere continues to hurt the fishing industry which also hurts many restaurants chains that serve seafood and I personally now many people in those business that are impacted by this. Also micro plastics are harmful to humans and the refuse and chemicals can be in seafood that we eat. Not only are straws bad for the environment but it is also bad for our health, when your drinking through a plastic straw it increases the likelihood of cavities, caused higher sugar and alcohol consumption, and Polypropylene which is a chemical in plastic straws affect estrogen levels.
