Country-wide trends indicate that MD school buildings will remain physically closed for students due to the COVID19 stay at home order. For almost 2 months, Maryland families have struggled to maintain their households while also being required to manage newly-established distance learning for children enrolled in public schools.

The continuation of instruction proved complicated and is causing unnecessary stress during this collective traumatic event. All parties involved have rose to the challenge but need an end in sight for instruction sooner than the proposed June date.

This petition is being organized to accomplish a two-fold mission. First, to recommend an early end to academic instruction for MD public school students as of May 15, 2020. This would allow school staff to use the remaining contractual days to prepare various scenarios for opening the Fall 20-21 academic year. Secondly, to recommend that all student promotions and outstanding credits are granted for next school year.
