Residency restriction laws are a method jurisdictions are using in an attempt to curb the actions of sex offenders. This law applies to a person who has committed a criminal offense against a minor or aggravated offense, sexual violent offense or other relevant offense that involved a minor. This is a legitimate legislative goal to promote child safety. Prohibit child molesters/ sex offenders from living within two thousand feet of the property public or non public elementary, secondary school, child care facility and playground recreation center. Limiting the frequency of contact between sex offenders and areas where children are located is likely to reduce the risk of a future sexual offense on another child/ repeat offenses.
Some of the local registered child sex offenders are living across from playground areas, schools, and neighborhood recreation centers. One thing in common, all areas where children are located. This is solely to promote child safety and protect our children from sex offenders.
