Ashley Congo started this petition to Maryland Governor and

Due to the HEAVY IMPACT of Covid-19 spreading with in the Maryland jails we (the families and friends) would like for release of inmates who are serving more then but not greater then three years to be eligible for strict home detention. As of now the governor has based it upon inmates who are ONLY 120(four months) from their release date. With the virus rapidly spreading throughout the prisons due to the employees bringing it in and infecting others which NOTHING is being done about this. Many prisons are not taking the right steps as far as giving the proper PPE gear, cleaning, giving out mask, inmates not receiving their medications, temperatures not being checked daily, mixing negative and positive inmates together (Not separating them). Their are inmates who might not see their families and children if the spread continues throughout the prisons. Their are inmates who have passed due to the spread of the virus. Just allowing inmates who have a couples of months left isn’t fair when their are other inmates who have served time, had good behavior, working, and still have to suffer. Please consider those inmates as well. Consider the inmates who have medical issues that’s aren’t getting their medications. Consider the inmates who have a mental illnesses. We understand that this may be a hard decision please consider the fact that as they suffer we also suffer. Their voice is not being heard behind the walls of the prisons so we speak for our loved ones.
