There is indeed power in words and I have no respect for the AKC. They do not really care about dogs as living and feeling beings it seems to me.

I’m signing because... I’m a service dog handler who frequently already has to deal with people who think it’s ok to take their pets into places only service dog handlers have public access rights to bring their dogs into. We’ve been barked at, lunged at, and jumped on by “friendly” pets being posed as service dogs. Please don’t change the name of this test to something so confusing in an already confused world.

I'm signing because I am disabled with a service dog. We had to pass a Public Access Test. Please don't hurt people and dogs like us. There are enough people hurting us already by posing as Service Dogs.

As a volunteer for service dog organizations, I can see the harm even the CGC is doing. I have seen multiple dogs in stores with the CGC patches on them as if that makes them service dogs. These dogs are just well mannered pets but they do not become service dogs just because of some silly test that says your dog can sit and be polite.

The AKC should find another name for their new program. In the SERVICE DOG WORLD a public access test is far more detailed than the AKC's CGC....which both of my service dogs in training took and passed. I chose to put them through the AKC CGC as a self test that they were closer to passing the more rigorous service dog testing that we were working towards. The training of service dogs is far beyond the rather simplistic AKC's CGC, which I value and appreciated as a benchmark for my documentation of my dogs progress towards becoming a full fledged service animal.
