I lost my son to the streets due to the broken mental health system. I can't find my boy and it's the courts fault!

We CAN make a difference, but it seems we have chosen NOT to do the right thing. I remember when mental health facilities put their patients out in the streets and closed their door because Reagan decided we couldn’t afford to help them. They were on the streets, and they still are. Who are we???

My son could and would have been well living a “normal” life if he could have had quality mental health treatment when he had his first psychotic break. Since then, we have had to fight a system that places numerous barriers and loopholes preventing mental health treatment. Most people are not able to navigate a complex and broken legal system to help their love ones. This is inhumane treatment for those whose brains are affected with an illness they DID NOT CAUSE! No one should wait for a person to enter Stage 4 of any illness before treatment can even be a consideration. In mental health treatment, often treatment is still not even considered when the person has the added symptom of not being able to know they are ill. Therefore they must live in the streets or jails.

We need more beds for inpatient psychiatric beds in hospitals. We speak up for those who have no voice. We must advocate for those who have no representation.

Mental illness deserves the same treatment and care as someone who has a broken bone or even more so like other life threatening diseases like cancer!

This is a good cause and more common than is socially accepted. Mental Illness is crippling and needs to be accepted so that people can get the help they need to cope, support and help all those affected.
