Oklahoma Governor Mary fallen, is now coming up with new a creative ways to get Oklahoma's to pay more taxes from online sales. The most resent is amazon, announced on February 2nd Amazon will start to collect sales tax from online purchases. Previously it was said that Oklahoma could not collect sales tax from online purchases because the product or the company has no business in Oklahoma. But now Fallen office has made a deal with amazon to collect sales tax the second you check out, Oklahoma has an average of 9% of sales tax.
In a quote Fallin says "This agreement levels the playing field for businesses in our state. Several state and retail groups have argued that stores in the state that must charge sales tax are at a disadvantage in competing against Amazon because it didn’t charge state sales tax,"
But how can a state legally collect sales tax when the purchase came from a different state. The people of Oklahoma are left footing the bill because the state gives out so many tax breaks to oil fields, and other companies that there is a budget short fall. So the state of Oklahoma came up with House Bill 2531,which has a long section expanding the definition of companies that must add the tax, including those that use Oklahoma warehouse and sales operations run by others
In a place where we are taxed for everything we do, even our utility service meters are taxed, yes thats right you are taxed for your electric, gas, and water services. We do not need more taxes, we need better management of funds. Sign this petition to say that you are tired of all the new taxes and that the state of Oklahoma has no right to online sales. And show amazon that you mean business that if they do not fight this you will cancel you prime membership!
