DANIEL'S LETTER: “My heart and spirit will NEVER BE BROKEN!”
Aug 24, 2017 — (Letter from 08/02/2017)
Supporters, friends, & loved ones:
I would like to start this letter off by thanking all of you again for the ongoing support! I continue to hear from my family and loved ones about the growing support and people actually coming out and voicing their opinions. Also, I want to thank the science community and everyone that researched/input their expert opinions on my case. Crime Watch Daily, thank you for the fair piece and re-airing the episode recently. Conservative Review, thank you for looking at the facts and not being swayed by racial or political concerns.
There has been a subject that I’ve been holding pretty close and it’s time to be vocal about it: the power behind the mass media! When this nightmare started, I had to keep my mouth shut. I was told by “advice of counsel” not to say anything. I saw an ongoing slaughter by the media jumping on the bandwagon just to sell headlines. Fabricated facts and misleading information fed into the public’s ears ultimately created this subconscious monster of “Daniel Holtzclaw.” The DA’s office and the Department continued and continued to feed the local news stations information to boost their case. This ultimately swayed the vast majority of the public’s opinion to believe I was guilty.
As I sat in the courtroom and looked at the jury selection raise all their hands to the question, “Raise your hand if you heard of Daniel Holtzclaw?” I observed pretty much everyone raise their hands. You may be asking, “Why are you mentioning this?” Well, for those who have never fought for their lives or have never experienced the reality of the court system, I hope to educate you from my own personal experience. Also, I believe at times I have to really break down information for people to understand.
As I was on bond and awaiting trial where I was wrongfully charged, the media continued to work the public. As my trial date came, I sat in the courtroom knowing I would not receive a fair trial. I emphasize the power of the media and how it affected my case. I mentioned above how the jurors knew about my case before the actual trial. That bias created a SUBCONSCIOUS effect on the jurors and the majority of the public to believe I was guilty before I even had my trial. The truth of the matter is it’s not “Innocent until proven guilty,” it is truly “Guilty first then prove yourself innocent.” How many innocent men and women will continue to fall due to unfair trials and wrongful convictions? So I ask you, did I receive a fair trial? Can this happen to you?
We have to take a stand and hold the media accountable for their actions. What happened to digging into the facts and presenting actual FACTUAL information to the public? On the other hand we have to hold ourselves accountable and not be ignorant and believe everything on TV. I encourage the media not to be politically swayed. Please do your homework. Investigate and dig deep to present the ACTUAL facts so people’s lives won’t be altered by a minute or two media segment.
Finally, I truly appreciate the loving support. I encourage all of you to continue to bang on doors and expose the secrecy of the sealed motions. It is truly not fair for me or the public. Your voice matters! I wouldn’t be where I am now if it wasn’t for all of you! I promise when I’m out I will FIGHT for all the wrongfully convicted men and women out there! Words can’t describe what I’ve been through and what I continue to go through, BUT what I will say is that my heart and spirit will NEVER BE BROKEN! Continue the fight because you guys give me the faith and inspiration to keep going!!!!
With all my heart,
Keep fighting for people power!
