Rebuild Santa Fe Obelisk started this petition to Mary Carmack Altweis and

On Monday, October 12, 2020 "activists" took it upon themselves to destroy a civil war monument located in the center of Santa Fe while our Mayor and our police department stood by and watched. The obelisk was not only a dedication to those who died in the civil war but it was a historical fixture in our city center where generation after generation of Santa Feans gathered to celebrate our great city. A handful of the "people" responsible were caught and charges were pressed. Once again it seems as though our Mayor and the SFPD are standing aside in the prosecution of these criminals.

On 12/28/2020 Sean Sunderland was scheduled for his hearing and the arresting officer, Jesse Campbell failed to show. The case was dismissed and this criminal got away with criminal trespassing and Resisting, Evading, or Obstructing an Officer. There are 7 more criminals awaiting their trials.

The actions of the "activist" has caused a further divide in the community and has deepened our lack of trust in those who we are taught will protect us. We are asking the Mayor, the Chief of Police, and the new DA to all make a promise to the community to ensure the remaining 7 are prosecuted to the full extent of the law and that they will do everything in their power to ensure that nothing else falls through the cracks. That includes ensuring that the arresting officers are in attendance at each and every hearing. Additionally, look into the participation and prosecution of Three Sisters Collective, Red Nation, and any others found in connection with orchestrating this "even"t.

The Mayor made a recorded statement after the incident condemning the actions of these criminals. SFPD posted several times on their page asking for help in finding the remaining criminals and we handed over 6!!! And now it seems as though they've moved on from their concerns/promises. Was it all an act? Do you still stand by your community?!
