Why this petition matters

Started by Susanne Peters

An educator and coach, Marvin Baker touched the lives of countless children in his many years in Highland Park, Illinois. From teaching PE at various schools, to Highwood Small Fry to Baker Ball, he was known to many. He never forgot the children he taught or coached and made every child feel special.

He passed away on April 1, 2022 after a brave battle with ALS.

A proposal has been made to create an athletic field consisting of ball diamonds, basketball courts, perhaps a four square or two, and a picnic area, to be named Marvin Baker Park. The park location will be determined at a future date, but will be somewhere in Highland Park. A signboard with a biography of Marv along with the Baker Rules would welcome park visitors.

This petition will be sent to the Park District of Highland Park, City Hall, and any other entities who are able to help facilitate this project.
