We call on Bristol City Council to install a pedestrian crossing on Langton Court Road.

Langton Court Road is a busy school route but there is currently no safe crossing place for parents and children. To make matters worse, Network Rail and Bristol City Council recently removed a footbridge over the railway line, leaving just one narrow pavement near the school.

Although the footbridge has been closed and derelict for many years, local councillor, Jos Clark, was contacted in 2016 by concerned residents and the local school, St Anne’s Infants, to see if the footbridge could be refurbished and reopened. Neither Bristol City Council nor Network Rail would Support this idea claiming it was too expensive. Cllr. Jos Clark then asked for a pedestrian crossing instead but was informed that this was not a priority for the council.

More recently, concerned residents showed local campaigner, Andrew Varney, the dropped kerbs, which the council installed on a blind bend right next to the bridge, which is more of a danger than a help for parents struggling to cross the road with their children.

We don’t want the council to wait until there is an accident before taking action, so please make the provision of a pedestrian crossing for Langton Court Road a priority for the council.
