Why this petition matters

Started by Benjamin Berry

For nearly 40 years, DC and Marvel have held a joint trademark on the term superhero. This is because they wanted people to think of their characters when using the term, and it's been successful. However, nowadays there are far more comic book companies than just the two of them, most of which publish superhero comics and stories as well, and many of whom are shut down just by trying to mention the term in their stories or titles. Marvel and DC may not be trying to purposely hinder these people, but they are preventing these companies and their stories from going as high as they can all because of that single word. There are millions of fans of yours, Marvel and DC, and they are all inspired by you to create and write stories and adventures that are as great as yours. All we're asking for is the ability to reach our full potential. Please, allow others to use the word Superhero freely.
