Keep the cafe at Dewsbury Hospital!

Keep the cafe at Dewsbury Hospital!
Why this petition matters

We are passionate about saving the cafe run by the wonderful Voluntary Services at Dewsbury District Hospital. We are unclear as to the rationale behind this decision but historically this has occurred when a new company has been given the opportunity to take over or that vending machines are put in place instead.
At a time when community is absolutely essential, it is not a decision which has been made with people at its heart. The volunteers provide not just refreshments and items for patients and visitors, but a listening ear and a helping hand. They are the first point of contact in the main reception and their professionalism and helpfulness is second to none.
Let's also not forget that the volunteers themselves often find a new sense of purpose working at the hospital along with an opportunity to socialise and feel part of a wider community whilst providing a guiding hand to those arriving at the hospital.
We would appreciate an understanding of the rationale behind this decision and urge the trust to rethink the closing of this cafe especially as, due to current restrictions, it is difficult to give a full representation of the depth of feeling of the local community.
We respectfully ask that the Trust take on board all of these points and allow the public the chance to be involved in the decision making process.
