The Wisconsin chapters of the Black Law Students Association are giving Marquette University Law School and the University of Wisconsin Law School the opportunity to do the right thing. Help us advocate for the success of all future black lawyers in Wisconsin. This is our Call to Action to make changes at both law schools.
1. We insist that both law schools issue a statement to the public condemning the actions of police officers across the country, and the underlying systemic racism in America that continuously brutalizes Black citizens.
2. We insist that the administration create a full-time staff member position that is solely dedicated to diversity, equity, and inclusion within the law school and legal community.
3. We insist that the administration requires its students, faculty, and staff members to complete yearly implicit bias training that is intended to continually build on their knowledge of issues related to diversity, equity, and inclusion as a requirement for graduation
4. We insist that the Dean make himself/herself available for monthly meetings with BLSA leadership.
5. We insist that the identity-based student groups at our institutions receive a separate stream of funding to fund programs that promote unity and solidarity.
