Marilyn Benedict started this petition to Marple Township Commissioners

The two tennis courts in Kent Park are the only two tennis courts in Marple Newtown Township other than MNHS which are only open to the public from approximately June 20th to September 1st of each year - 12 weeks maximum.  Our neighbors in Havertown have 24 public courts, Media has 14 and Springfield township has 22 courts.  Over the years, Marple has gotten rid of the courts on Highland Ave, Paxon Hollow MS, and several other areas leaving residents with only the two courts in Kent Park, which are also used by residents of Media, Drexel Hill and other surrounding areas.

The courts at Kent Park haven't been resurfaced or maintained in over 40 years. There are huge cracks and holes all over the courts and the cracks go from baseline to the net and across the court horizontally as well.  There are weeds coming through the cracks also.  If you hit the ball and it hits a crack, the ball goes in the opposite direction. The nets are old, ripped, and don't wind. In 2013, a MNHS student cleaned and painted the courts for his Eagle Scout badge.  This is sad.

Kent Park courts are dangerous to play on and must be resurfaced.  They are our only tennis courts in the township and accommodate kids and adults of all ages.
