I've been an Executive Assistant to a couple VP's of Academics at a private university. Boards are notoriously political, and seem like they try to keep issues "mysterious" to retain their perceived power. Since staff are hired for their professional expertise, and uni's profit from their experience teaching their students; this board SHOULD allow this challenge to occur! Any business should use ALL their tools to find a successful resolution to their problems, especially if they are in danger of closing their doors. The board's unwillingness to share information or jump on board is suspicious, and makes me question their motives.
There are many businesses that have successfully turned hard problems over to their staff, employees, and even public... often known as "crowdsourcing," etc. It would be a HIGE mistake for Marlboro to not do this, especially if a successful past administrator is helping with the challenge. Seriously, I don't understand why they would rather close their doors in September vs. crowdsource a multi-angle answer.

I wish you all the best!

As a graduate in the class of ‘84, I know that the essence of Marlboro is equally the Place as well as approach to education. I support all second & third opinions, as I would before any major life & death surgery.

Because Marlboro is so important to southern Vermont and it’s community and what kind of VP would remove it from this
