In the Philippines, the continuous rise of COVID-19 cases remains while the neighboring countries are now recovering from the pandemic crisis. Accordingly, our team has observed that one of the factors why numbers keep on rising is due to limited social distancing in public areas, especially in supermarkets. For this reason, our team brainstormed for a project that would help the community effectively, making it simple, secure, and a better place for everyone while making it fun and innovative. The goal of our team is to facilitate and make individuals aware of social distancing, in the most innovative way we can think of. Our vision is to make a difference and to help prevent the virus from spreading by movements and by raising awareness towards the importance of social distancing.

The primary purpose of this action plan or project is to improve and promote social distancing in a creative way as a result that the majority of people do not follow this protocol most of the time, especially in supermarkets. The planned project will help the system in the grocery stores to be organized in a way that will improve the social distancing to make the customers feel secure and safe when buying necessities and it will be less hassle for the people. At the same time, as implementation happens, it will help in raising awareness as to how important it is to have social distancing. Furthermore, as we help our economy to rise from the crisis, we are also providing aid to our community and environment to be safe by following effective and safe guidelines in purchasing goods.

In raising awareness for social distancing, we would like to urge the adaptation of creative methods in supermarkets in a way that will be both efficient and safe not only to the employees but also to the customers. By doing so, we plan to raise petitions in change.org in using creative methods such as adopting the use of toy trains that will help in aiding the customer in their orders. In New Zealand, this type of service is adapted in their restaurants, which helps maintain a contactless transaction. In supermarkets, our team planned that to have a contactless transaction, customers are required to write down their orders in which it will be scanned by a machine that will go through the system of the supermarkets and will be received by the employees. The customers will then receive a number corresponding to their train that will transport their packaged goods. While waiting, the customers are directed to the waiting area, which can accommodate about 10-15 people every 10 minutes. The waiting area will strictly abide by social distancing with a maximum of 2 persons per table, which also has a plastic barrier. In a span of 10 minutes, 15 trains carrying their packaged goods will arrive and customers are required to check their items before leaving. As they check, there will be two buttons in the table, either red and green, whereas red indicates missing or problem while green indicates complete. For concerns, there will be a machine that will take up the customer’s concerns similar to the machine in drive-thrus that is placed in the concern booth. The payment will be at two locations, the exit which accommodates cashless transactions through QR codes, and the payment booth near the exit in which it will have a plastic barrier to maintain minimal contact between the employee and the customer.

In view of this creative method, what our team highly recommends is the use of toy trains that are larger than the toy trains in New Zealand, in order for supermarkets to have fewer interactions in which it will not compromise the health of the employees and the customers. It may be expensive, but our team believes that there is no equivalent price for the health of an individual. In promoting and urging for this change, we are to create a petition through Change.Org, make several infographics that will explain the recommended project thoroughly, and create FB, IG, and Twitter pages that will help in promoting the project as well as raising awareness towards social distancing.
