Tami McTaggart started this petition to Market Drayton Town Council and

Some time ago, the local community recycling depot on Lidl car park was removed due to funding cuts from Shropshire Council.

Market Drayton is a continuously growing population! With over 12,000 residents, and being the most densely populated of all Shropshire’s Market Towns, our citizens needs should be more prioritised.

Our local household recycling centre is currently located at Whitchurch, and with a growing number of local residents reliant on a NON-EXISTENT public transport system, we are simply unable to travel to use these much needed facilities.

A local recycling centre would reduce emissions released by those currently travelling to the nearest site. It would also bring jobs to the town, reduce local littering and fly tipping, and become a way of encouraging the community to be more eco friendly.

By no means is this a suggestion that the bins be replaced at the Lidl site, our aim is for a more secure location within the town to avoid unwanted tampering of containers and “an eye sore” like previously.

Alongside this, community recycling points should be installed as well as general waste bins nearby all local parks, schools and within the town centre to help reduce unnecessary waste levels being sent to incinerators and landfill.

Please sign this petition if you wish to be part of a green movement within Market Drayton.
