Dear Mark & Priscilla Zuckerberg,

I would like to take this opportunity to write a letter asking you both to stand up to the political and corporate influencers that are pressuring your company to take away the voices of many that believe vaccines have harmed the people they love, particularly the children they love. Facebook and Instagram may be the only visible and viable platform they have. These influencers have resources to use the media as a tool to casually point out the harms of being un-vaccinated, but I challenge those same writers, correspondents, editors, etc. to now interview parents of autistic children, parents of children with an assortment of food allergies, parents of children with autoimmune diseases, and parents of children that have passed away arguably due to adverse reactions to vaccines.

It appears Facebook’s intent is to eliminate pages with potential misinformation and this is a dutiful goal. However, what line will your company draw when interpreting information as harmful or valid? Before that line is drawn, I recommend that Facebook and the same members of media that seem to report only one side of the story visit the Instagram pages of @nickcatonemma, @christinemecklenburg, and @shielteam6. I believe you will encounter every day Americans that are courageous and fearless in discovering the affects of vaccines. How will Facebook’s interpretation of misinformation impact the voices of these individuals? Social media is a platform where the views of superstars are often elevated. But people like Nick, Christine and Matthew are the ones that deserved to be lifted and heard. Now is not the time for Facebook to take reactionary steps that would eventually lead to silencing these individuals or many people like them.

In the short amount of time that I’ve spent learning about this topic, I’ve come to realize that I want to hear more from both sides. Whether the earth is flat or round tomorrow, life will still go on. This issue is much more serious because the consequences have a real impact and therefore the issue requires much more debate. If you stand with companies like YouTube and Amazon, then you are essentially shutting down a debate that needs to take place.

There is no doctor that can tell you what flavor ice cream your kid likes the most or if they run to mommy or daddy first when they cry. But you both know immediately know the answer to those questions. Admittedly, this is a simplistic way of viewing a more complex issue, but there are situations when you know your children best and you will do whatever it takes to do what is best for them. At the very least, you deserve the right to defend your children, including voicing your opinions without censorship. We all deserve the right to ask questions and reject answers that don't make sense when it comes to the health and well being of our children. We all deserve the same body of information to make well informed decision to achieve what we all want - a healthy and better future for our children.

Please reconsider the real impact of your ban. Thank you.
