Please sign this petition if you oppose the construction of a cemetery on Oncken Road. This cemetery would house hundreds, potentially thousands, of bare, unenclosed bodies (i.e., without coffins, with no treatment or testing to prevent biological decomposition to seep into the ground). This is inconsistent with the prior vision of this space and the "scientific standards" proposed to date are from an organization whose mission it is to promote these sites. Independent, long term scientific studies have not been conducted or cited by Mr. Wall. This could be approved by the Common Council as early as October 5, so please sign soon!

Should this be approved, the Council should consider requiring personal strict liability for Mr. Wall related to any contamination of the site or loss of life, use of water, or devaluing of adjacent property. The Council should also consider requiring Mr. Wall to sign an option to purchase agreement with each landowner on Oncken Road, which could be exercised solely at the right of the current landlowner and at a fair market value determined by an independent party selected by the Council and not paid for by the landowner.

Background: T. Wall Enterprises and Mr. Wall’s organization, the Wisconsin Foundation, are proposing the installation of a cemetery on Oncken Road at a location that was previously visioned as a school area. This proposal is masked as an “amendment” to the plan, but at a minimum, should be considered for rezoning or a new use. While T. Wall Enterprises cites awards for other environmental achievements, this does not ensure his foundation will continue to execute that level of care. By turning this over to a non-profit, Mr. Wall and his commercial business may be shielded from any liability associated with this property.
