This is a petition to the WA Government and the WA Chief Health Officer to delay the opening of WA Borders by a minimum of 1 month.

We all know the borders will need to open at some stage, however, the decision to open the borders on 5 Feb was made before the Omicron variant started wreaking havoc across Australia and the world. Having a 90% double vaccinated population is irrelevant for the Omicron variant which requires at least a third and possibly a fourth booster shot to be effective (if effective at all).

There are also concerns on whether WA hospitals will cope with a covid outbreak in an already strained system. Although the Omicron variant appears milder than previous variants, it is also much more contagious than the Delta strain which was more contagious than it's predecessor meaning a higher percentage of the population is getting sick meaning just as much if not more hospitalisations are occurring.

We are in such a unique and great position in WA compared to the rest of Australia and the world. Let's not undo all the hard work done so far by West Australians and let's delay the opening of the WA Borders until we have a firmer grasp on the current situation.
