Amit Dahiya started this petition to Scott Morrison (Federal Member for Cook) and

Dear Sir/Madam

Australia is home to different cultures like me. We all celebrate each other’s festivals with great joy.
We have just read it in the news that the US Congress is presenting a bill in the Parliament to declare Diwali as a Public Holliday.

Diwali is a festival which is widely celebrated by people of all religions having connections with India.

ISWA in Western Australia hosts 2 day function at Claremont Showgrounds every year and almost 50,000 people attends this festival every year.

We request you to please announce Diwali as a public holiday in Australia so that everyone including people from Indian background can celebrate this festival without worrying about work on that day.

This would be an awesome gift from our Australian Government to the Indian Community.
