John Knospler is a Marine Corps Vet, who has been charged and convicted with second degree murder in the state of Wyoming. Knospler had gone hunting with his friends and later had a night of drinking. Knospler didn't want to drive drunk, there was a winter blizzard, and his friends were drunk too, so he decided to sleep it off in his car. Knospler was awakened by a man who punched through his driver's seat window. He was lunging at him and was armed with a gun. This man's name was James Baldwin. James Baldwin had a long and violent criminal history (18 felony counts of vehicle burglary, as well as multiple counts of assault and evading police).  Due to the man who was attacking him, and the harsh weather conditions, Knospler was unable to drive away, despite his failed attempt. When the man began to threaten to kill him in order to steal his car, Knospler made the split second decision to use his pistol, which was next to him (because he'd been hunting). Knospler fatally shot Baldwin, and drove to the police station, to let them know what had happened. Knospler was arrested on the spot and charged with second degree murder. Second-degree murder is ordinarily defined as: 1) an intentional killing that is not premeditated or planned, nor committed in a reasonable "heat of passion"; or 2) a killing caused by dangerous conduct and the offender's obvious lack of concern for human life. This case is NOT either of these things. If there is such a thing as self defense, this is it. Please sign this petition, if you believe that this man should at least be retried, and that the government accept his appeals.
