During the COVID-19 pandemic, the State of Wyoming began requiring reservations for day and overnight use of the state parks. Unfortunately, this has made it almost impossible and extremely inconvenient for Wyoming residents to change plans and  go camping on short notice due to non-residents overwhelmingly reserving the camping spots.

With the removal of the reservation system for Wyoming residents, it will allow the residents more opportunity to utilize their state parks on a short term basis. However, keep the reservation system for non-residents allowing approximately 25% of all available sites to be reserved for non-residents. This type of system will allow residents to get full use of their state parks while allowing non-residents the opportunity to enjoy our wonderful state of Wyoming.

When a person lives in a location with local recreation areas, it isn't natural intuition to have to make a reservation to enjoy local recreation. However, when you are visiting from out of state, it's more intuitive and convenient to make a reservation so there's comfort in knowing the spot is secure when you get there.

The result of the current system is more non-residents making reservations, which deprives the residents of their local recreation.
