Vote to Continue NCAA Equestrian
This petition had 18,659 supporters
NCAA Equestrian was established in 2002 as an emerging sport with only 6 schools. Today, 12 years later, the NCAA recognizes 22 colleges and universities. The NCEA recruited 16 institutions to fulfill the NCAA’s requested total number of 40 colleges and universities. Fulfilling these guidelines during a time period that the majority of society was affected by an economic recession limited the NCEA’s ability to recruit the additional 18 colleges and universities. If the NCAA votes to disband NCAA Equestrian, over 1000 female athletes will lose the opportunity to compete in the sport they live for. Additionally, over thousands of potential female athletes will never be given the opportunity to see the arena, some of whom will not be able to attend college, whether it because of academic or financial reasons. All the time, money, and efforts of these girls, their families, and their respective universities and colleges will have been wasted. Current athletes, future athletes, and past athletes, will be cheated out of so many valuable lessons and opportunities simply to follow NCAA “protocol”.
This sport is worth so much more than simply following the directions on a piece of paper. Without this sport, women will continue to lose equality at the NCAA level while insulting the Equestrian Community as a whole. These girls’ commitment to themselves, their horses, their university, and most importantly their sport MUST be honored. Sign this online petition to show your support of these young women and the sport they love. #saveNCAAEquestrian
