Give Students at Norwich University the Option to go Online After Thanksgiving Break
Despite the official results of the student survey, the vast majority of students I have talked with feel that we should continue the semester online after Thanksgiving break for two reasons:
1) For the costs associated with going home for Thanksgiving break, we feel they do not justify us returning for two weeks. During those two weeks, we will learn little, and will basically be preparing for final exams. As most finals are conducted through NUoodle anyways, it seems dumb that this is the reason we're not online.
2) With the unprecedented rise in COVID-19 cases in the state of Vermont, and with the disregard for COVID-19 mitigation on Norwich's campus, with the safety in mind of our community, I think we're fooling ourselves if we genuinely believe that we can return to campus safely.
While we understand the problems that going online would create for some, giving the student population the option of going online would allow students to make the decision that is best for their given situation and mental health.
