MCA - Expand list of accepted Yacht Chef Food Safety Qualifications for Yachts for chefs

The UK MCA has a recognised list of qualifications for food safety under section 3.1 at Min 513 at but we would like a industry wide list that covers qualifications from all the major maritime nations which all maritime authorities will recognise. eg a chef from Australia with Food Hygiene Certificate from there will be able to work on UK MCA flagged vessel without having to redo their course. German, USA and non UK etc all are being made to sit UK MCA recognised qualification which isnt equitable.

So the Yacht Chefs Association asks all maritime authorities to sit down and produce a global list of acceptable Food Safety Certification qualifications. The YCA is happy to work as central collation point to get this done!

....  Also for Yacht Chefs working in the superyacht industry globally it would be good for the MCA and all the Maritime Authorities to clarify best practice regarding the food safety practice in galleys and which would cover the use and cleaning of chopping boards in galleys on yachts.

This will help chefs and food handlers on yachts and ensure safe and hygienic working practices onboard yachts.

We propose using the example of the UK standards set by UK Food Agency as at See

And therefore we propose where possible for chefs to use the UK colour coded system for chopping boards globally on yachts. See

” To represent the collective voice of professional chefs in the global super yacht industry and to offer its member’s opinions to all stakeholders in yachting with regards to matters relating to chefs, galleys and cooking on yachts “
