Make the men's head coach a Full Time Position

The Marist Men's Rowing program has steadily declined over the past decade. While the athletic administrations at competing schools have chosen to invest in and support their rowing programs, Marist has remained in place forced to watch others pass it by. A Varsity status program at a Division I school should have a full-time head coach. The stipend that Marist provides to the men's coaches is not even competitive with many club programs.
A full time coaching position will not solve all of the problems. But it will be a start. The program needs someone who can dedicate their time to coaching, recruiting, and training plans without worrying about where the rest of their income will be coming from. Consistency at the head coach position - even without the best coach - goes a long way, and a full-time position is the only way to create that consistency. Whether you're a Men's Alum. or Women's Alum., this is a step that will ultimately benefit the Marist Rowing Program as a whole.
