After the tragedy that took place on the evening of June 27th, the safety of drivers is shown to be at risk. Even though the speed limit is 20-30 depending on the turns and curves on the road, guard rails should be placed for the safety of drivers and pedestrians alike. Barriers and guardrails have been shown to lower injury when high hazard situations are presented.

Concrete barriers have been shown to reduce injury by 39% when drivers hit them instead of rolling over or driving into a tree. (1)


but concrete barriers are not needed in this situation due to the fact of lower speeds. In this situation, guard rails should be preferred method to stop injury. When striking guard rails, injury is reduced by 49% compared to concrete barriers. (1)

According to the US Department of Transportation, guard rails are designed to absorb the energy of a car traveling at 62 miles per hour. The guard rail absorbs this energy and redirects the vehicle on the road. 

In this situation, guard rails would have redirected the vehicle onto the road and would have saved the life of a beloved high school student.
