Make Argentia Ferry Run Year-Round.

The Avalon peninsula contains roughly 50 percent of the islands population. Placentia being only 1 hour from all the major centers on the Avalon would not only have alot of economic values and benefits, but it would also help reduce carbon emissions in Newfoundland & Labrador.
Alot of people in our province don't bother to travel by car in the winter time due to the risk of icy road conditions. Port Aux Basque is roughly a 10 hour drive from St. John's and it takes approximately 6 hours to travel to North Sydney from Port Aux Basque.
St. John's to Placentia is roughly a 1 hour drive and a 14 to 16 hour ferry ride to North Sydney. Argentia and the Port Aux Basque run takes about 16 hours to travel to Nova Scotia by car if you live on the Avalon.
More then half of the Commercial trucks bringing in the supplies to the island head to St. John's. These trucks are heavy polluters which is adding more dirty greenhouse gas emissions to the atmosphere which can be reduced by taking the ferry from Argentia.
The highways outside the Avalon are single lane highways, which is unsafe for residents to travel due to heavy traffic from commercial transportation. Moose accidents also plays a major factor in this as well.
The Argentia Ferry run would also boost more tourism in the winter time and would attract more people to visit our province. This is not only good for our province but for Nova Scotia as well, as more people would feel safe to travel by car to Nova Scotia. This would also help boost their economy.
We have all heard the horror stories of traveling to Port Aux Basque in the wintertime. This deters people from both the Mainland as well as the island from traveling this time of year.
It's time we think about the environment and how to grow a better greener economy by reducing emissions for our province.
