Why this petition matters

Started by John Parnell

Dear Marin Supervisors,

Our community spends tens of millions of dollars every year to help the homeless, yet the number of our neighbors without a home doesn’t seem to change.  Most of the money spent goes to a handful of nonprofits, whose goals are laudable, but their business models require that the problem not be permanently resolved.

Governor Newsom has just halted the flow of state homeless funding, because he is not happy with how we are spending it.  We need to change the way we are spending our money.  It is time to take direct ownership of this issue, expense & resolution.

Please build a tiny-home village with RV facilities in the back lot of the Civic Center.  We could house hopefully half of the unhoused in our county for less than the cost of just the $16 million you spent last year on the Eliseo property, which can only house 43 people.  After spending all that money on that property, it didn’t make prudent fiscal sense to give it away to one of these nonprofits. That is not owning the issue - it’s giving it away.

We can find another location for the pig races & petting zoo at the County Fair in order to help our neighbors in the most need.

Thank you.
