Kyla Andreas started this petition to Marietta College Students

Marietta College is a well established institution that has granted its students with successful futures and careers. With all Marietta has accomplished however, more can be done to improve our overall impact on the environment. As Marietta College students who are working on a project concerning environmental needs, we find that there are not enough recycling bins around campus. The main problem is the lack of recycling bins in the residence halls.

Since Marietta College requires most students to live on campus, we find that there should be recycling bins in every trash room in every residence hall. This would give students the option to make a difference and impact the environment in a positive way. Even small gestures can make a big difference in the long run.

After speaking with Katy Lustofin, the president of the Lower Muskingum Conservancy, she explained how plastic water bottles are the number one thing collected during trash cleanups. A single plastic water bottle can take hundreds of years to decompose. The implementation of recycling bins within the residence halls would serve as a way for Marietta College to help cut back on the number of plastic water bottles found in our landfills. And water bottles are not the only problem! Other plastics are also harmful to our environment, but us Pios can help alleviate this negative impact with the simple act of recycling.

Help us prove to the Marietta College Administration that this is a cause we care about! We should have a convenient and accessible recycling option in our residence halls.

Let's make the Long Blue Line just a little more green!
