Maribyrnong Council: Urgently review laws that prohibit responsible backyard chicken keeping.

We, the residents of the City Of Maribyrnong, call on the Council to urgently review Domestic Animal Management policies in order to support responsible chicken owners in Maribyrnong. In particular, we call for a review of the distance requirements outlined in General Purposes Local Laws 52.3 as we believe these regulations exclude the majority of residential properties in the City.

We believe Council's local laws regarding poultry keeping to be incredibly impractical and in desperate need of a change to be more inline with other local Councils as well as Council’s own Food Security Policy.

We want a policy that is supportive of sustainable living and good animal husbandry, not arbitrary measurements.
