Remove trees from the south side of Harbour Park, Maribyrnong
Dear Jetty Lane Residents,
You will be aware of the recent planting of trees by Maribyrnong City Council in Harbour Park , Edgewater.
I have had discussions with several of our neighbours and it appears that they was no community consultation with regards to the planting of these trees.
It is very clear that there was no environmental impact study done with regards to positioning of the trees, because it will have a very detrimental effect on the living conditions in the houses along the southern side of the park. Tthe positioning of these trees will in a few year block natural winter sunlight into the residences making it necessary to use other means to light and heat our homes creating a negative impact on the environment.
The passive heating from the low winter sun currently means that on a reasonably sunny day we are able to use no supplementary energy to heat and light our homes and therefore are sustainable and environmentally friendly.
In the summer our houses will have much less natural light due to light absorption from the canopy.
If the light from the North is diminished by these trees canopy, our homes will become dull and we will have to supplement that light by running electric lighting, again having a negative impact on the environment.
