Gregory Ledger started this petition to Maria Hadden and

With every delivery to a person's home from a restaurant or food purveyor, plastic forks, knives and spoons are included. This is curious and wasteful, as most homes already have silverware, so these single use items are not needed.

Currently on many delivery sites, such as Grubhub, one has to ask that plastic items be omitted from the order. (This hardly ever works, the plastic knives, etc., get delivered anyway.)

If we banned automatic delivery of these plastics, this would go a long way to helping to solve our single use plastics problem. Given the current state of our waterways and oceans, a move like this is not only ideal, but imperative.

Restaurants and other purveyors could still provide such items, but the customer would have to specifically ask, then pay for these as a premium (say 5 cents per plastic item) and some of this revenue could be taxed to address environmental issues, such as environmental justice.

Chicago could lead the way with a ban of this nature, showing our commitment to future generations.
