Students all over the nation have been fighting for stricter gun laws and safer schools. However, this movement goes far beyond the issue of school shootings. As a high school student, I am not only in danger when I enter my school building; but also when I go to the mall, the movies, a concert, a place of worship, or a job. Any time I am in a public place there is a threat of gun violence. Mass shootings, facilitated by military-style weaponry, and often at the hands of mentally-ill individuals, can be prohibited with the simple stroke of a pen. The passing of stricter gun legislation would  greatly diminish this threat. "Everyone has the right to live, to be free, and to feel safe" ("Universal Declaration of Human Rights", Article 3) and I hope you will join me in this fight for our rights.
